My Goals for the Project

My Goal is to translate the Holy Bible into Dinka, and to see the Bible printed in my own language for the benefit of my people in Sudan. I have been working on it these five years now. I plan to finish it in the course of four months and revise it for six months. Then, it shall be printed by the publishing office that I will be in contact with as I progress in the work. Recently, i contacted Pacific Press and Remnant Publications to see how much it would cost to print 5,000 and 10, 000 copies of the Bible. I got a reply from them that it would cost $50,000 for 5,000 copies and $80,000 for 10,000 copies.

The Dinka people in Sudan and everywhere around the world are thirsting to hear the word of God, especially in their own language. My brother in Christ Thokriɛl Bol Tɔng was excited about the project, when I sent him just a copy of a part translated from Genesis. He is looking forward to the completion of the Holy Bible into Dinka language. My friends who live here in America are very interested in the project's progress. Also the general population of Dinka back in Sudan would be glad to receive the Bible in their language. Presently, I have a partner in this project, who is also from Sudan. His name is Amos Mathuc Acuïïl. He has recently finished the Torah - the five books of Moses. He was here in Berrien Springs, Michigan. He also left to Sudan on December 10, 2007. You may contact him at: mathuch2003@yahoo.com.

To my Knowledge, the work that I have done thus far is not mine, but the Lord's, because without Him I would not remember some Dinka words that are not usually mentioned in a common conversation and some biblical expressions that do not directly translate. I depend on the Lord of heaven and earth to guide me through to the end. He very much desire not only that my people should read His word in their own tongue, but that they also with the rest of the saints in light might be saved.

Translator: Wöl Bol Wöl

Project History

There is no complete Holy Bible printed for the Dinka people at large. There have been three instances of printing of the New Testament. The first printing took place in 1940 for the Southeastern Dinka (Bor). The second printing took place in 1952 for the Northeastern Dinka (Döŋjöl). The third printing took place in 2005 for the Southwestern Dinka (Rek). Thus, there has not been a combined print of the Holy Bible in both Testaments. That means the Old Testament has not yet been attempted in printing.

However, the Dinka Rek Bible Translation has its beginning on the campus of Oakwood College. When I arrived to Denver, Colorado in 2001 from Kakuma Refugee Camp with my brothers of Sudan, the vision had only just begun to be fulfilled. After I was establish in Colorado, I came to Oakwood College in January 2003 to study Theology. Here, I made my vision known to the chair of the department of the Biological Sciences and he asked me, "What is preventing you from beginning?" He explained to me the pla n of what I should do and bought me some materials to begin it.

The project was housed in the Public Relations department at East Hall and carried out by me- Wol Bol Wol, the student of theology at Oakwood College. The project was recommended and voiced by Dr. Anthony Paul the chair of the department of Biological Sciences. There are three project sponsors: Dr. Delbert Baker the current president of Oakwood College, Dr. Anthony Paul the chair of the Department of Biological Sciences, and Sis. Jacqui Gates the former vice-president of Public Relations at Oakwood College. Through the help of President Baker, I had the priviledge of presenting the project to the North-American Division president -Don Schneider during one of the school board meeting here.

The Dinka Rek Bible Translation project is located on the campus of Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI.
Today, Fifty-one books of the Bible are completed aside from the translations of 74, 130 words of different incompleted books. I also have a partner who has completed the Pentateuch -five books of Moses, whose name is Amos Mathuc Achuil. Mathuc is working on revising the Pentateuch now. He was here at Andrews University in Berrien Spring, Michigan. Amos graduated in Religious Education in August,2007 and went home to Sudan to work for a year. He is a Dinka who is zealous about the completion of the project.
Please pervently pray for us and support us out of your willingness and means. God bless you all...

John 3:16-17; "For this is how God loved the world, that He gave His unique Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him."
